Set up X

Create an X app with write access and copy the correct pair of credentials into Inkling.

X shows two different pairs of credentials on similar-looking screens. Inkling needs Client ID and Client Secret from User authentication settings — not the older API Key pair.

Set it up

  1. Go to developer.x.com and sign in with the X account you want to post from. Register for developer access if asked and describe the real use plainly.
  2. Create a project and then create an app inside it. The names are only for your team.
  3. On the app's Settings tab, find User authentication settings and press Set up.
  4. Choose Read and write permissions. Choose Web App, Automated App or Bot as the app type.
  5. Paste Inkling's Redirect URI into X's Callback URI field. Put your public website in Website URL, then save.
  6. Copy the new Client ID and Client Secret into Inkling. X may show the secret only once, so copy it before closing the box.
  7. Save and switch on X in Inkling, then connect the account under Social media → Connected accounts.

You are finished when…

The intended X handle appears under Social media → Connected accounts and the app's permissions say Read and write.
