Start here: before you connect a social account
What you need, what Inkling is asking you to create, and how to avoid getting locked out halfway through.
Social networks do not let Inkling post just because you know the account password. Each one asks you to make a small developer app first. Despite the name, you do not have to write code.
Think of the app as a name badge for Inkling. The network issues the badge; you approve it; then Inkling can show you a Connect button.
Have these ready
- The login for the social account you want to use.
- Permission to manage the company Page or channel — being able to post normally is not always enough.
- Access to the email address and phone used for security codes.
- Your public website address and a square logo file.
- An uninterrupted 30 minutes. Facebook and Instagram may take longer if the accounts are not linked yet.
The three things you will copy
- Client ID — the badge's public number. Some networks call it an App ID or Client key.
- Client secret — the badge's private password. Never email it or paste it into a chat.
- Redirect URI — the Inkling address the network sends you back to after you approve access. Copy it exactly, including
https://.
The same last steps for every network
- In Inkling, open Social media → Network setup and choose the network.
- Copy the Redirect URI from Inkling into the network's developer screen.
- Copy the network's ID and secret back into Inkling.
- Press Save and switch on.
- Open Social media → Connected accounts, press Connect, and approve the account Inkling should use.
You are finished when…
The network says Ready under Social media → Network setup, and the correct account appears under Social media → Connected accounts.
